Gmail's New Rules: Essential Tips for Email Marketers

Hey email marketers, are you ready for Gmail’s new rules? as of February 2024, you need to meet some new requirements if you want your subscribers to continue getting your messages. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row by following these three steps so you don’t get marked as spam.

First, Authenticate Your Email.

If you haven’t already, setting up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for your sending domains and subdomains can help ensure your emails aren’t bumped to the junk folder. Google offers helpful details and instructions on getting started here.

Next, Enable One-Click Unsubscribe.

A one-click unsubscribe option will be required for emails (with the exception of transactional messages). Make sure your email system honors all unsubscribe requests within two days.

Finally, Stay Under a 0.3% Complaint Rate.

Now for the new rule that will require your active attention! You will need to monitor your Gmail spam rates using Google's Postmaster Tools. Keep them below 0.10% and take urgent action if you are at or over a spam rate of 0.30% in Gmail (via Postmaster Tools) or Yahoo (via your email sending platform reports).
